Time is on their side
Whether you call them punk, rock or experimental, Hunters and Anglers have definitely stumbled upon a sound unique to the three gentleman that make up the power trio hailing from Welland and surrounding area. I have had the chance to take maybe three of their shows at various locales all over London, but April 29th at apk live was by far the best performance to date. The band has grown musically and technically. Ross' hard hitting bass riffs and Jordan's sharp drumming style all accompanied by Justis' wailing guitar and unmistakeable vocals, bring Hunters and Anglers into 2011 with a serious edge. With lyrics reminiscent of Lou Reed circa Velvet Underground and a sound that sometimes has a west coast vibe, one can find themselves caught up in ever changing drum tempos and at times, hypnotic guitar riffs. Song titles like Walking Under Your Breath, Empty Shell, and I'm Not Dead appeal to a crowd that may either feel lost or simply apathetic, especially after that election on Monday. General consensus among the band mates post show was to cease planned practices and maybe take up jogging instead. When I asked about a forthcoming record, Justis commented, "We are looking into it for sure", I sure hope so. From here, the band is back home to sweat it out over the summer months and plan to tour when it's deemed appropriate. I have a feeling H&A will continue to pick up fans anywhere they may roam this upcoming season. Kudos to you guys, keep doing what you do!
